Definitions
I am a linguist by training, a writer by hobby, and I enjoy dabbling in philosophy. Inevitably, the definitions of words are a fascinating by-way.
Given that I write about topics that can be controversial, I have begun to occasionally post definitions of key words I use. The definitions I offer are descriptive: they are designed to make it clear to you what I mean when I use these words. I am not trying to use my great authority as a trained linguist to impose these meanings on you mere users of language.
At any rate, here is a list of the definitions I’ve posted so far, with links to the relevant blog posts. Feel free to request definitions or give other feedback.
- atheist
- Christian
- free will (and an earlier post with Thomas Hobbes’ definition of free will)
- fundamentalist
- humanist
- religion
- secular
Future definitions:
- materialism
- science
